ERTICO visits China for C-ITS knowledge exchange and presents at the World Transport Convention in Beijing
June 13-16. ERTICO will be co-hosting the Europe-China ITS High Level Forum in China this week at the 2019 World Transport Convention (WTC 2019). The event is scheduled to convene today at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. ERTICO also took the opportunity of this prestigious event to create a forum for collaboration between Europe and China on C-ITS knowledge exchange through its CAPITAL e-learning programme.
The Europe-China ITS High Level Forum will be attended by representatives from ERTICO, GIZ, T-Systems, Catapult and Huawei from Europe and MOT China, Alibaba, Dalian University and Tsinghua University from China. Emily Hemmings, Support Manager for International Cooperation at ERTICO is presenting a special session on the opportunities for China-European Cooperation in ITS training and capacity building. Other topics presented include traffic related air pollution, EU-China opportunities in the development of satellite technologies and traffic prediction possibilities using artificial intelligence and location concepts. The Forum is an ideal opportunity to discuss points of collaboration and complementarities between Europe and China in the C-ITS sector.

Representatives from Huawei, AKKA and ERTICO also met together in the framework of the CAPITAL project to witness a showcase of the latest technological developments in Beijing’s Capital Highway in its opening stages. The initiative was a part of ERTICO-led project, CAPITAL, an e-learning programme designed for public authorities and professionals in the private sector.
The World Transport Convention (WTC) aims to advance research and development of the transport industry, and further promote international exchange and cooperation in transport, especially the transport infrastructure connectivity among countries along “the Belt and Road” initiative.
Started in 2017, the scale of WTC grows from 3,500 attendees to an expected number of 7,000 participants in 2019. The former two conventions respectively focused on “Green and Integrated Development through Innovations” in 2017 and “Better Transport, Better World” in 2018 and their successes have been reported by over 2,000 world media and news agencies.
This year themed with “Green and Intelligent Mobility for Future Transport”, WTC 2019 is now drawing interest from over 50 countries and regions. Hosted by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Ministry of Transport (MOT), and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), organized by China Highway & Transportation Society (CHTS), WTC 2019 is composed of a rich list of technical activities and networking opportunities, such as opening ceremony and keynote speeches, transport expo, technical sessions and workshops, competitions for innovative design of transportation infrastructure and system.
