ITS e-Learning Project CAPITAL makes its debut at ITF in Leipzig
The CAPITAL team took part in the OECD’s International Transport Forum (ITF) 2018 in Leipzig, Germany from 23 to 25 May, with a stand promoting the project’s online training activities.
Visiting the CAPITAL stand, ERTICO CEO Jacob Bangsgaard introduced the CAPITAL approach to the ITF audience at the project’s dedicated stand, underlining how CAPITAL’s nine online courses ‘respond exactly to the specific needs of the ITS community’, and ‘provide an essential “learning pack” of ITS and C-ITS basics’.
A three year-long project co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by ERTICO, CAPITAL raises awareness of the services and benefits of ITS and C-ITS through training and educational resources aimed at public and private stakeholders who need to develop their knowledge in the field.
‘CAPITAL’s courses are an important tool for filling in knowledge gaps and upgrading missing professional skills’, Bangsgaard continued, ‘and beyond that, the CAPITAL online educational courses provide a vital link to the ITS community.’
Intelligent transport systems (ITS) are on the cusp of large-scale deployment in Europe and around the world. However, a 2017 study conducted by the CAPITAL project found that the public authorities which can deploy these services are often not only unaware of the potential benefits of ITS, they also lack the knowledge and understanding of what ITS services are and how to go about deploying them. Results from the study also specifically indicated a need for sharing of best-practice cases as well as training on evaluation methods and cost-benefit analysis of ITS services.
By taking the free open online courses offered by CAPITAL, public authorities at all levels (local, regional, and national) can learn, exchange, and build capacity to deploy ITS & C-ITS in their area. The training offered by CAPITAL also covers impact analysis and evaluation methods, empowering public authorities with the tools they need to choose the right solution that is tailored to their needs.
CAPITAL’s open online training platform provides a training programme and educational resources, with free online courses now available on www.its-elearning.eu.
